I was greeted with a happy news this morning so much that i can’t contain myself. I just have to blog about it. (I wasn’t expecting it until tomorrow.)

The trailer of the Half Blood Prince – the sixth of the Harry Potter series – is now available online at the AOL website. Watch it!

Yay! Thanks Mugglenet for the news. :)

Update: Here’s a streamed HD 720p version.

Eskapo Part 2

I was presented another opportunity to escape.

My phone rang. Whoever it was on the other line was very lucky. That was one of the rarest times that I’d answer a call from a number that’s not in my addressbook; and worst, while i was in the midst of network troubleshooting with some colleagues. Even worse, i walked out of the room, and w/o notice left the job to them. What was i thinking really?

But wow! It was my luck after all. (Or is it another nightmare?) Oh boy, oh boy, here we go again. Just about when i was forgetting that other thing that confused me for weeks. The big question is — to be or not to be? Laban o bawi? Pera o bayong? *corny na!*

I wonder what reasonings/justifications will come out of my puny little brain this time.

PS. Walang Part 1 ang post na ito. Basta Part II siya, ok? Ok!

PPS. Bigla ko lang naisip, do they use Macbook there? Guess not. What will happen to me?! *in panic!* :(

Pausch and the Last Lecture

Saturday, 26 Jul 08 irrashai Leave a comment

I was reading Slashdot this afternoon when i came across the news that says Randy Pausch, known for his Last Lecture, died on July 25. Pausche is a computer science professor at the Carnegie-Mellon University who suffered from terminal pancreatic cancer.

I’ve heard a lot about this famous speech “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” (popularly the Last Lecture) that was held September of 2007. The video received millions of views on the internet. Well, you all know the story by now.

I had a copy downloaded from iTunes U (along with other lectures from Berkeley). It was in my desktop for a while, and not until May of this year that I watched the entire speech. I tell you, it was worth it. It’s always nice to hear from mentors and successful people in the technology field and their view of life. So if you haven’t seen it yet, take some time to watch (it runs for 1:16).

Watch directly from the Carnegie-Mellon page on Youtube or download from iTunes Store (iTunes U -> Carnegie Mellon University -> SCS Video).

How-To: Write to NTFS Partition in Mac

Tuesday, 22 Jul 08 irrashai 2 comments

(I have quite a few how-tos i wanted to write about, usually to document something i did with the servers. Most of it gets lost in my mind afterwards. So that leaves me with mostly Mac stuff.)

This how-to documents what i have done, including all faults, repetitions, and miracles — you’ll find out later.

By default, NTFS partitions are readable in Mac OS X; but not writable. I have a bootcamp partition and i can see it via Finder. I also have an external drive, where i sync important files from my desktop PC. Before, it was ok to just have it in read-only since the same files are also sync’ed in the MBP. The mobile drive’s main purpose is really when i’m working at home on my PC (or other remote places, w/c is very rare).

Lately though, i’m running out of space on the MBP. The solution is either to delete *unimportant but fun/entertaining* stuff OR unload *important but boring* stuff and locate it somewhere. Anyway, these *important stuff are not for use in the mac. I’m just so OC to want to have a copy of everything.  (Good reasoning, eh?!)

Chunky Loco

Was it a direct result of the current crisis? Or are some grocery stores capitalizing on this dire time?

Living in the Manila area has been hard these days. Prices have all rolled up, and it has affected me in some ways, from rice meals and fastfood delivery to bus/taxi/jeepney fares. But despite all that, you haven’t heard/seen/read(?) me complaining. At least not in writing, and not in this blog. But now i just might be… and well, it’s for a chocolate chip cookie. :p

Irrashai and i are into Chips Ahoy Chunky — my newest chocolate/cookie fix. The first time i bought it a month ago at Rustan’s Katipunan, one pack costs Php140+. Not even two weeks after that i was back at that grocery store, the price has soared to Php195. That’s a hefty 50 peso increase. Probably because it was the height of rice and oil price crisis, or the previous was an old stock and the new ones are priced higher, etc. I was thinking of reasons to justify but well, what do i know? Still i kept buying the same pack, and had 4 more chunkies to date. I can’t help it.

Just now i learned that the same item is priced Php140+ at another supermarket (Landmark). How is that possible? Don’t we have an SRP on all grocery items? Sorry for the shallow topic, but having known it this morning, half of my day is ruined (i’m exaggerating). Now i’m complaining!
