My Very First Song – or maybe 2nd

It was Tuesday and i was rushing home for a final get together with my cousin before they go back home. I was in this bus from Ayala MRT Station bound to Sucat when this song was played all of a sudden. Not that they are in retro mood or whatever. It’s not even Sunday. Sorry, i associate old 70’s and 80’s songs with this day, thanks to an uncle whose sounds are loudest during this day playing his, well, favorite My Way (and the likes) songs.

Thanks to it anyway, i was in retrospect the entire trip. That song is not just any old song. It was the first (or perhaps the second) song i memorized as a kid (erm, kiddie songs excluded). I should know. Until i was old enough, my mom and siblings would proudly tell people about this little trivia about me memorizing the song at a tender age. According to them, i only overheard the song when my brother plays the guitar and just basically started from there. And as if it’s a joke, the punchline is of course I sing it stammering. Bulol sa tagalog. Funny, shameful and outright embarrassing, since I stammer most or perhaps even the entire song. The lines that i recall goes like…

Your eyes opened wide
As I looked your way
Couldn’t hide
What they meant to say
Feeling lost in a crowded room
It’s too soon for a new love

I pronounce it as…

Yol ayt open wayd
At I look yol way
Couldn’t ayd
amamen to tey
Piling lot in a klawded lum
It tu tun pol a nu layp

Or something like that… Now that i think about it, it just makes me laugh.

Btw, since i have literally murdered the song, perhaps i owe it to the original singers to at least mention something about it. The title of the song is “Your Eyes” originally by Cook da Books. It was a popular song in 1983 as a soundtrack to a movie called La Boum 2. Thanks to google, i had a second chance to know these details.

I can’t find a decent streamed mp3 song. So if you insist to hear, please go over at youtube and search for “La Boum”. Meanwhile, i’ll try to recall the other one. I assure you, bulol din ako singing that song. I knew it in the bus, but just can’t locate the address anywhere in my volatile memory at the moment. I’ll update when i do.

Ciao!
